Key Anti-Spam Technologies |
SURBL Module
SURBLs differ from most other Real Time Black
hole lists (RBLs) in that they're used to detect
Spam based on message body URIs (usually web
sites). Unlike most other RBLs, SURBLs are not
used to block Spam senders. Instead they allow
you to block messages that have Spam hosts which
are mentioned in message bodies. The SURBL
module also helps detect the phishing type of
messages. |

Distributed Hash Databases
Vipul's Razor, Pyzor and DCC are collaborative
spam-tracking databases, which work by taking a
signature of spam messages. Since spam typically
operates by sending an identical message to
hundreds of people, these databases
short-circuit this by allowing the first person
to receive a spam to add it to the database --
at which point everyone else will automatically
block it. |
Real Time Blackhole Lists
We support the popular Real Time Blackhole lists
(RBLs) that can be selected via our management
interface. Examples: Spamhaus, Spamcop, MAPS,
ORDB-RBL, SORBS, CBL, RSL. |

Open Source SpamAssassin Engine
Heuristic spam engines examine the behavior of
email traffic down to the packet level to
determine if it is spam or not. Heuristic
engines, through non-linear mathematics,
identify a message as spam by correlating the
results of various spam filters that are
triggered by an incoming message. Only if sets
of related filters specific to spam are
triggered, at the same time, is the message
classified as spam. A true value of the
heuristic engine is that it becomes more refined
and efficient as it processes more and more
email. |
Greylisting
Can block SPAM for a specific mailbox or all
mailboxes
Greylisting is a new method of blocking
significant amounts of spam without resorting to
heavyweight statistical analysis or other
heuristical approaches. Consequently,
implementations are fairly lightweight, and may
even decrease network traffic and processor load
on your mailserver. Greylisting relies on the
fact that most spam sources do not behave in the
same way as do “normal” mail systems. It works
by requesting the senders mail server to resend
a message. As the spammers will not typically
resend a message, the original message will not
be processed. Once a message is successfully
received, the message will not be requested to
be resent again. |

Auto-Learning Bayesian Filter
A technique used for identifying incoming e-mail
spam. Unlike other filtering techniques that
look for spam-identifying words in subject lines
and headers, a Bayesian filter uses the entire
context of an e-mail when it looks for words or
character strings that will identify the e-mail
as spam. Another difference between a Bayesian
filter and other content filters is that a
Bayesian filter learns to identify new spam the
more it analyzes incoming e-mails. Bayesian
filters are adaptable in that the filter can
train itself to identify new patterns of spam
and can be adapted by the human user to adjust
to the user’s specific parameters for
identifying spam. Bayesian filters also are
advantageous because they take the whole context
of a message into consideration. |
Rules_Du_Jour
SpamGate automatically retrieves antispam rules
on a daily basis from an archive of rules to
fight the latest spam attacks. |
|
Anti-Virus Scanning
SpamGate supports 15 different Virus Scanners
but we typically use 2 default virus engines
that are automatically updated every hour. The
virus scanner also includes a module to detect
phishing types of messages.
|
File Attachment Blocking
SpamGate includes a file attachment blocking
module which allows file extentions to be
defined of specific attachments to be blocked. |
|
E-Mail Address Validation
Each recipient e-mail address can be verified
against your messaging servers using LDAP or
advanced technologies like Milter-Ahead. This
will prevent invalid adressed messages from
being sent to your mail servers, i.e.,
(Dictionary Attacks) |
Keyword and Phrase Filter
We provide a module for adding your own keywords
and phrases to be checked in the subject line
and body of a message should you need additional
filter rules.
|
|
Management Interface
A browser based interface that will display the
color-coded status of each message to quickly
determine spam messages in real-time. You can
view the header information of the message as
well as view the actual contents of every
message. |
Manage User Quarantine
(Web Interface)
Allows each user to check their Spam in the
quarantine with a browser interface at any time
and then release a message in the quarantine and
whitelist the message. |
|
Manage Administrator Quarantine (Web
Interface)
Allows the administrator to view all spam in the
quarantine at any time for any period of time
and then release a message in the quarantine and
whitelist the message. |
Whitelist / Blacklist Maintenance
Allows you to control the sending addresses that
you will automatically: forward mail from (Whitelist)
and reject mail from (Blacklist). This method
saves the processing time of your SpamGate
appliance from having to scan the email and
report a score. Instead it reads the sender’s
information and automatically forward or reject
the message based upon your arrangement. |
|
Outbound Scanning
SpamGate performs virus and spam scanning in
both directions on the same appliance with a
simple change to the SpamGate configuration.
|
Archive Module
The Archive module will save a copy of selected
messages or all messages to another mailbox.
|
|
Easy Installation
There is no software to install. There are no
modifications required to your existing mail
system. All SpamGate's come pre-configured to
your network needs. Just plug it in, and it will
begin to scan incoming email immediately. |
Increase Your Email Server's Capability
The SpamGate Antispam Appliance is
self-sufficient, meaning that it handles all
your spam-blocking so it does not bog down your
email servers. Consequently, the load on your
email system will be dramatically decreased,
since they will process and store less incoming
mail. Therefore, the performance on your email
servers will increase. |
|
Automatic Updates to System
As spam trends change, new updates to provide
the maximum proficiency in detecting spam will
automatically be performed on your SpamGate
appliance. There is no need for your
organization to do it manually. SpamGate
proficiency will always be maintained. |
Support for Multiple Domains & Email
Servers
All SpamGate models can be used no matter the
number of domains or email addresses.
|
|
Detailed Message Reporting
SpamGate maintains detailed statistics of Spam
and Virus efficiency at your site. Reporting
data provides you with key metrics to show the
value of the SpamGate appliance as a filtering
solution. Multiple reports are available,
including filtering data on a recipient, sender,
or IP address basis. For example, administrators
can use these features to see which employees in
their organization are receiving the most spam.
